Inpaint is a powerful photo editor whose main function is to allow you to remove unwanted objects from your photos. The program can be used to remove people, small or big objects, watermarks, date/time stamps, scratches, restore old photos, and improve people's skin, among other applications. The removed area is automatically filled with a texture created from the pixels in the surrounding area, so that your photo will look like the removed object had never been there.

To use Inpaint, you need to start loading your source photo. Then you can select the object or area to be removed by using some of the tools provided for this. Those tools are the marker, the lasso, the polygonal lasso, the magic wand, and the guide lines. Each tool allows you to select the area you want to remove in a different way. For example, the marker tool allows you to "paint" over the area you want to remove, while the lasso tool allows you to "draw" its outline. The magic wand is also a very interesting tool, as it helps you select an entire area based on the color selected and a tolerance value.

Whatever tool you select to work with, you can always choose if you are selecting or deselecting an area, and you can also define the “donor” area, whose pixels will be used to fill the removed area. The program allows you to zoom your photo in and out to the most comfortable level, allowing you to get precise results. Finally, once you have successfully selected an area, you can remove it with a simple click. Then the program allows you to save your work as a different image file, to avoid accidental data loss.

To sum up, Inpaint provides you with a unique method of editing your photos ─ by removing inadequate objects or areas from them ─ which is rarely found in other photo editors. Unfortunately, Inpaint supports three image file formats only: JPG, BMP, and PNG.
